Alpine students enjoy the benefits of a small college in an international environment. They live in a hotel facility, which they help to operate as part of their Applied Hotel Operations module. Students gain maturity and valuable experience through active participation in the running of academic programmes: working with faculty on committees that oversee curriculum, discipline, and academic issues, and also through participation in the Student Council.
It's not all work however! Other vital ingredients for the Alpine experience are student-centred fun, such as various campus clubs, and student parties. The more sporty types organise squash and tennis tournaments, soccer, and basketball, often in conjunction with faculty. As ambassadors of their school, students play an important role in furthering the standard and reputation of Alpine by displaying attitudes and behaviour compatible with responsible and well-educated adults.
In order to make professional appearance a part of their everyday habits, students are required to be neatly and professionally dressed during lectures, meals and official events. The language of instruction is English. However, our international industry needs people with multi-language capability, so Alpine provides the option for students to study German, French or Italian.
Applied Hotel Operations
Alpine's Applied Hotel Operations and modules (see modules under Portfolio of Courses), ensures that each student gains experience in all areas of the operation that are relevant to his/her programme.
- First-year students in the Hotel Management programme learn the basics by playing the role of team members in the Food and Beverage department and Rooms Division Departments
- Second-year students in the Hotel Management program assume the role of supervisors, under the supervision of Alpine’s Heads of Department.
- Third-year students in the Hotel Management programme assume the role of managers , with a faculty member as mentor. They also develop their team management skills by operating the hotel.
- Culinary Arts students assist in the preparation and service of meals while aspiring chefs test their abilities independently as acting chef on a rotating basis.
- Travel and Tourism Management students assist in running the front office and assist students and staff with travel arrangements.
This system gives you responsibility right from the start, so you have many opportunities to gain self-confidence and other qualities of a leader: those you will need for success in your career and life generally.
As an integrated part of the programme, Applied Hotel Operations help you to understand how departments work together from the manager's point of view. |
