The Yacht Industry
Over the last decades, there has been an increase in the number and popularity of large private luxury yachts and mega yachts. This increase has created many job opportunities as yacht steward and stewardess for quality service-minded individuals who enjoy the idea of working at sea
At Alpine Center, the pioneer in hospitality and tourism management education, the need to develop a specialized course tailored to prepare young men and women for careers in the luxury or mega yacht industry became apparent. The Course Director supported by a team of specialists in the field of yachts and sea-life devised a unique 4-week course designed to equip participants with the skills and knowledge required to sail into a very lucrative and exciting career.
Course Curriculum The programme includes specialisation subjects and options, several of which award independent certification (e.g. STCW95) in addition to the final course certificate. Modules include:
- The Global Yachting Industry
- Introduction to Seamanship
- Food & Beverage Service Theory & Practice
- Sanitation & HACCP
- Housekeeping & Valet Services, Theory & Practice
- Professional Skills
- Employment Opportunities in the Yachting Industry
- STCW95 Certification Course – 5 day training in “Standards of Training Certification and Watch keeping for Seafarers”
- Speed boat licence (optional)
- Scuba diving certification (optional)
Industry Placement
Following completion of the course, students must fulfill a 3 months industry placement on board a luxury or mega yacht before receiving their Certificate
Alpine’s Career & Placement Office will assist students in finding appropriate placements in luxury or mega yachts and later on in pursuing further career opportunities.
ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS
Candidates interested in the yacht steward and stewardess executive training course should be at least 19 years of age, with a minimum of 6 months’ work experience in the hospitality industry. They should be able to work at sea (with no sea sickness) and enjoy good health.
Fill in an application form and send it to Alpine Center with a copy of your curriculum vitae, 4 passport photos, copies of high school diploma and any other education, reference letter, international health certificate and a clean criminal record.
The course will be available at the following dates:
- 17 May - 11 June Deadline to register by 10 May 2010
- 21 June – 16 July Deadline to register by 10 June 2010
- 03 Sept – 30 September Deadline to register by 15 August 2010
Please note, Non-EU students requiring student visas are informed that it takes 4 weeks to apply for a study visa.
